Why Older Adults SHOULD NOT Focus on New Years Resolutions But SHOULD DO THIS Instead!

December 30, 2019

80% of people quit their New Years Resolutions, and most have stopped by mid-February.

Encourage the Older Adult in your life to focus on these TOP 4 HEALTH TIPS:

1. Make FITNESS a Lifestyle, NOT a Short-Term Goal.

Exercising for 3 months will not improve your health long-term. I work with most of my clients year-round and because of it, they see ongoing changes and improvements that are life-changing.

2. Celebrate the Small Wins

If a senior has never been active before, applaud them when they join a gym or start walking regularly! They may even inspire you to do the same. I know many seniors who are healthier than their kids.

3. Develop ONE Healthy Habit at a Time

Instead of changing 5 things (and giving up) focus on 1 Healthy Habit per month. Choose 1 fitness or nutrition habit per month. It takes 21 days to build a new habit- so set yourself up for success! At the end of the year, you will have 12 new Healthy Habits!

4. Adopt a Healthy Mindset

If the senior in your life has had a bad track record for change, they may not believe they can actually maintain healthy choices. Point out how well they are doing and remind them of successes from the past!

Instead of focusing on the short-term, remember that every small healthy decision will add up over time!! You've got this!!
